What is your decorating style?
My favorite “look” is “Eclectic”. I suppose it’s because I appreciate so many different design elements, stemming from just as many decorating styles found in today’s expanding global culture…. from classic American favorites we’ve all come to know and love throughout our country’s young history to the more exotic and dramatic worldly influences passed down through the ages. I don’t believe in designing around the most popular current trends, instead preferring to add subtle touches with the right accessories. Whether it’s in the details of sophisticated, worldly elegance; the polish of high style glamour, or romantic whimsy of French country charm…the rooms I love best are fresh and energizing, current yet timeless, and filled with an abundance of light…invoking a warm, welcoming, harmonious mood and feeling of pure relaxation.
How long will my project take?
Each design project is unique in its own way and completion times will depend on a variety of factors such as what furnishings are being ordered, which professional services are needed, contractors’ schedules, etc.
- Different home furnishing products take different amounts
of time depending on the type of item, manufacturer, whether
it is a stocked item or special custom order, back orders, etc. - Some general guidelines from order time to delivery & installation:
- Privacy shades and blinds- 3 to 4 weeks
- Window dressings (draperies, valances, Romans shades, etc) – 4 weeks
- Upholstered Seating – 8 weeks
- Furniture -6 to 8 weeks
- Re-upholstery, slipcovers, headboards – 4 weeks
- Carpet – 4 weeks
How do you charge?
If you are someone who has never worked with a design professional before, you may have a pre-conceived notion that we are expensive, a luxury only available for the wealthy, and a service you cannot afford. Quite the contrary! The truth of the matter is that a good design professional works hard for her/his clients and always with their best interests at heart, giving them the greatest value for their decorating dollars. In the long run your decorator will save you valuable time and money while preventing you from making costly mistakes.
Most design professionals prefer to work on a flat-fee based “retainer”, with the dollar amount being in direct proportion to the scope of the project and roughly how many man hours are involved. The retainer serves as a good faith payment, an agreement between client and designer that both parties are committed to working together to reach their common goal successfully and in a timely manner. The retainer also serves as a “deposit” to cover the designer’s time spent on the different phases of a project such as: research, sourcing, shopping, appointments, ordering, receiving deliveries, consulting with contractors, trips to showrooms & workrooms, overseeing job site, etc. In certain cases, an hourly fee may be more appropriate.
As each project is unique unto itself, we always work with our clients in a personalized way that is tailored to their specific needs and that brings them the best overall value.
